Built in Amsterdam. Shaped by Light.

Every photographer has a turning point. For Elias, it was a dawn walk through the Jordaan at 19 — a disposable camera, fog on the canal, and the sudden understanding that light tells the truth.

From a Disposable Camera to Vogue NL Covers

Elias grew up in the Oud-West neighbourhood of Amsterdam, surrounded by architecture that compressed beauty into narrow facades and reflected everything in water. He studied Visual Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie before spending three years assisting editorial photographers in Paris and Milan — learning on set, frame by frame, what it means to serve a story rather than your own ego. He returned to Amsterdam and launched Elias Visuals with a singular ambition: to bring the cinematic weight of film to commercial photography. His first major commission — a fashion editorial for a Dutch independent label — ran in a regional supplement and caught the eye of a Vogue NL creative director. That one spread changed everything. Over the following years, Elias built a practice that crosses three disciplines — brand storytelling, editorial fashion, and architectural photography — and refuses to stay comfortably inside any one of them. He shoots on both digital and medium format film depending on the project's emotional needs. He also produces and directs brand documentary films, often running parallel to still campaigns to give clients a complete visual identity package. He is based in Amsterdam, available for worldwide assignments, and still wakes up before sunrise when a project demands it.
The Approach: Restraint Over Excess

The Approach: Restraint Over Excess

Elias works primarily with available and natural light — not because studios aren't available, but because controlled artificial light can flatten the emotional temperature of an image. His process begins with extensive location scouting and mood boarding, followed by a pre-shoot conversation with every client to align on the feeling they're chasing, not just the look. The camera is the last thing that comes out.
Film & Stills — One Vision, Both Mediums

Film & Stills — One Vision, Both Mediums

Many photographers offer video as an afterthought. For Elias, moving image and still photography are equally weighted disciplines — each informing the other. Brand documentaries, campaign films, and architectural walk-throughs are produced with the same cinematic intentionality as his stills work, using cinema-grade equipment and a handpicked crew of collaborators.
